Georgia State Law requires that every dog and cat be vaccinated against rabies at 12 weeks of age. Since our primary responsibility is rabies control, this is the only vaccine required by law. Rabies is a fatal disease that can be transmitted to humans. By maintaining current rabies vaccines on your pets you are protecting your family, friends, and pets from this fatal disease. Vaccinations must be administered annually. Please discuss vaccination protocols with your veterinarian.
Once the vaccine has been administered, your veterinarian will provide you with a rabies tag. County Ordinance requires tags to be on the animal at all times. Each tag is individually and uniquely numbered. Tags are used for identification if your dog is impounded. If your pet is impounded wearing a current tag, we will contact you by either phone, mail, or home visit for County residents to advise you we have your pet. We will hold the animal up to thirty days while we attempt to contact you. A current rabies tag is your pet’s passport home. See Holding Periods
